This Civil War Dark Lantern design is based on some CW era drawings and a fair amount of speculation. The inner shell revolves to allow the candle to be shaded. Sort of a candle powered flashlight.
The lanterns is about 5” in diameter and about 15” tall including the carrying ring. The panes are natural mica.
The inner shell is attached to the top and is turned by twisting the top. The inner and outer shells are separate parts That are fastened together at the base. The inner shell rotates, but understand that they are metal on metal, not exactly race ready.
Available bright or painted black.
Each lantern is made by hand, one at a time. There can be significant differences in the appearance of the finish compared to the photos.
