I finally started using my stash of authentic hot-dip tin. Before the switch to electroplating in the mid-19th century, tin was made by dipping sheets of iron into vats of molten tin and then rolling the coated metal to smooth out the surface. This surface looked very different from the shiny, smooth tinplate available to tinsmiths today. Hot dip tin is hard to find and costs about 200% more than electroplate, but it is historically accurate for tinware.

This traditional candle lantern is correct for the 18th century and later. It is a sturdy lantern with thick glass and strong glass guards for rugged use at events or in your camp.

  • Measurements: 15” tall and 7” square.

  • Finish: Natural hot-dip tin with distressed glass.

  • The price includes shipping to the continental US.
