Joe Wants a Watch Case.

I am finally getting started on making a watch case for a patient customer, with a watch to display. He sent me these photos of an antique tin watch case that he would like me to take inspiration from.

We do not have any information about who made this case or when. I have not seen another one quite like this. A quick scan of some of my tin books did not come up with anything either.

So off we go on something completely new for me to try to make. I am reasonable OK with the case and door construction. I am less happy about the drawer, don’t like drawer making as a rule. The scalloped top is going to be a real learning exercise for me to figure out. I think it will be similar to how I make tops for some of my fluted lantern tops. We shall see.

Usually when I start working up a new design I do a very basic drawing to work out the dimensions and to get a general plan of attach. In no case so far has that initial drawing had much to do with the finished design, but it’s a start.

You can never have too many clamps.
